Interpreting Licensing Values on a Title

The values used to calculate your licensing position are presented on the software title (but only when its licensing status is tracked by installations). The following table describes all of the values and how to use them to understand your licensing position. It is important to understand that the calculation of some values changes depending on the focus — title or version. When a value appears on a title it does not necessarily summarize the values for the versions included in it. Because licensing should be considered on a version by version basis, the values given on a title are generalizations, while the values given for each version accurately reflect the licensing of a version. The focus — title or version — is specified in the table wherever there is a distinction to be made.

Licensing Term	Description	Usage
Licensing Status	A generalized status for the entire software title: green for Ok, red for insufficient licenses, and yellow for almost under licensed or over licensed.	When browsing through your titles you can get a big picture status of a single title or all your titles.
Status%	The percentage of your entitled licenses that are in use.	When your status is yellow, the percentage makes it easier to determine whether you are almost under licensed (approaching 100%) or over licensed (very low percentage).
Installed Quantity	The number of discovered software installs.	This shows your legal liability as discovered by Configuration Manager on the linked Configuration Item.
Entitlements	On a title: All the base licenses for the software title, plus cross title base licenses that result from competitive or edition upgrades. On a version: The number of licenses available to this version, after assigning all the base licenses to versions and determining which upgrades and downgrades will be required.	The purpose of this value is to identify how many licenses are actually available for this title or version.
Base Licenses	The number of base licenses that were available for this version based on SKUs and licenses.	When the licensing status is green this value must be equal to the number of installs. If it is not equal to the installs, then other base licenses must be used through upgrades and downgrades. When the licensing status is red, if there are insufficient base licenses, then this value shows how many were available to be applied against this version's installations.
Upgrade Licenses	The number of upgrade licenses associated with this version through SKUs.
Licensed Installs	The number of installs that are covered by licenses.
Remaining Usable	The number of additional installations that this title and version can support.	It is important to understand that while this field is exclusive to this version, it is not cumulative across versions. For instance, if additional installs where performed on a specific version, the remaining usable count for other versions would probably be impacted. This is because the overall entitlement (across versions) is affected by each install.
Remaining Base Licenses	The number of base licenses for this version, which were not used by the best fit calculation.
Remaining Upgrade Licenses	The number of upgrade licenses for this version which were not used by the best fit calculation.
Expired Licenses	The number of licenses whose expiration date has passed.	Expired licenses are no longer included in the count of valid base or upgrade licenses.
